1 Corinthians 6:11 (AMP)
But YOU WERE WASHED CLEAN (PURIFIED BY A COMPLETE ATONEMENT FOR SIN AND MADE FREE FROM THE GUILT OF SIN), and you were consecrated (set apart, hallowed), and you were justified [pronounced righteous, by trusting] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God.
You have been made free from the guilt of sin. All your past, present and future sins have been forgiven, but do you still feel guilty when you miss it and sin? Of course, every believer does, and therein lies the problem. As Christians, we are told that we are only forgiven sinners, not righteous new creations capable of living godly lives. Instead of hearing God’s Word in our hearts, we listen to ungodly voices tell us what’s wrong with us and what’s missing in our lives.
Sweeping statement now: God no longer sees you as a sinner, even when you miss it and sin. Instead, God relates to you based on the perfection of Jesus. Believing this in your heart will activate resurrection power in your life.
Here’s the rub when it comes to being free from the guilt of sin. Sin must be punished; therefore, if I sin (and we all sin from time to time), I punish myself subconsciously. This subconscious punishment shows up negatively in my health, in my finances and in my relationships.
The thing that’s got us bound up is self-limiting beliefs manifested as destructive cellular memories. Self-limiting beliefs are stored in your heart, but destructive cellular memories are stored in your body in the form of sickness and disease. The penalty that my sin and guilty conscience deserve is showing up in my body in the form of sickness and disease.
Here’s the cure: Jesus took all the punishment my sin deserved and now I can live free from a guilty conscience, even when I miss it and sin. That is why the Apostle Paul wrote that there is now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:1, AMP).
Listen: I’m not saying we should keep sinning and just suppress the guilt that accompanies it. What I’m saying is that we should believe in our hearts that Jesus took the punishment our sin deserved, and if we really believe that in our hearts, we no longer have to feel guilty. As a result, the sickness and disease in our bodies goes away effortlessly and automatically.
The self-limiting belief that prevents us from experiencing this reality is that we still see ourselves as sinners because we still miss it from time to time, instead of seeing ourselves the way God sees us in Christ, as holy and righteous new creations.
